CBT WITH Bike Hire
One to one student to instructor ratio
Note: Please be aware it is a common myth that the CBT is a one day course. Some students may be required to return for a second day in order to complete the syllabus and be safe on the road - the charge is £80.
NO HIDDEN COSTS
There are no hidden extra costs with ART Rider Training. All costs include:
- Bike hire (unless stated) for the whole duration of your training.
- Free use of our safety equipment (helmet, jacket, gloves, waterproof clothing)
- Insurance which covers damage to any bikes hired, third party only. Personal injury is not covered and you partake in training at your own risk.
- Riding instruction is always carried out at a 2 to 1 student to instructor ratio (unless 1 to 1 has been requested and paid for). We believe this provides a better quality of service to you compared to the DVSA’s legal maximum ratio of 4 to 1 on CBT courses.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the CBT course?
Courses start at the ART Rider Training office in Laindon, Basildon (SS15 6PX). Please refer to our find us page for more information.
What is the CBT?
CBT stands for Compulsory Basic Training and is designed to get you up and riding safely and confidently by the end of your course. There is no test but you do need to reach a required standard.
Training is available on either a moped, scooter or motorcycle.
Here at ART we expect you to have a good working knowledge of the Highway Code. Please visit https://www.gov.uk/browse/driving/highway-code or alternatively buy it for £2.50 in the shops.
You will be required to create a check code ahead of your training to ensure you have entitlement to provisionally ride a motorcycle.
What do I need to bring with me for my CBT course?
- UK provisional/full driving licence*
- Clothing should you not wish to use motorcycle gear provided by ART Rider Training
* Old style paper driving licence holders must bring an additional form of photographic ID, ideally a valid passport. International licences are not accepted.
What shall I wear?
You will learn about safety equipment and clothing during your CBT.
At ART Rider Training we provide all motorcycle gear to be worn on the day of your CBT including helmets, textile suits, gloves and motorcycle boots.
If you wish to wear your own clothing you must be fully covered up in a long sleeve jacket and trousers, preferably denim jeans.
Motorcycle boots are provided her at ART. Should you wish to wear your own, walking boots and trainers are recommended as a suitable option (steel toe caps are not advisable)
Leather gloves are ideal. Cotton and ski clothes are not suitable.
D-ring earpieces are used however some students may find them uncomfortable. You can bring your personal headphones as long as they are in-ear bud style.
What do I get at the end of the course?
A CBT certificate giving you the ability to ride up to 125cc or up to 50cc if you are 16 years old.
It is not legal for you to ride on motorways or carry passengers (pillions). L plates must be displayed on both the front and rear of your bike at all times.
What happens when the CBT certificate expires after 2 years?
If you have not passed the tests for a motorcycle licence and want to continue riding a small bike, you must re-new your CBT certificate by completing the course again.
However, if you want to progress onto a larger motorcycle you should go for a motorcycle licence within the 2 year validity of the CBT certificate. (There are special cases for full licence holders riding mopeds of 50cc)
Do you need a theory test in order to do CBT?
No, a theory test is not compulsory to complete a CBT but we do advise refreshing your knowledge of the Highway Code.
What is your cancellation policy?
You can only make changes to your training or tests with at least 4 working days notice without charge (i.e for Monday bookings you must cancel or amend by Monday the week before at 4pm). Any last cancellations or changes made within 4 working days incur costs of £40 for re-scheduling CBT courses.
How long is the CBT course?
The CBT course runs from 9am - 4pm*
*Please be aware it is a common myth that the CBT is a one day course. Some students may be required to return for a second day in order to complete the syllabus and be safe on the road - the charge is £60.
